The eye disease and diabetes-related eye complication screening program at Hoan Hao General Clinic helped residents check their vision, undergo fundus examinations, and detect eye abnormalities at an early stage.
Screening for Eye Diseases and Diabetes-Related Eye Complications

On August 13, 2026, the program “Screening for Eye Diseases and Diabetes-Related Eye Complications” organized by Hoan Hao General Clinic (Kei Mei Kai Japan) took place with the participation of a large number of local residents.
The program provided an opportunity for residents to proactively check their eye health, detect early signs of abnormalities, and gain a better understanding of common eye diseases, especially cataracts in older adults and diabetic retinopathy.
Why is screening for eye diseases and diabetes-related eye complications necessary?
Eye diseases can progress silently over a long period of time. In particular, older adults and people with diabetes are at risk of developing various eye problems if they do not undergo regular eye examinations.
Symptoms such as blurred vision, glare, unclear vision, or gradually declining eyesight may be warning signs that require examination.
Regular screening helps residents proactively monitor their eye health, recognize abnormalities at an early stage, and receive appropriate care and treatment when necessary.
What examinations were provided at the program?
As part of the program, participants received health checks and consultations with the support of the medical team:
- Free blood pressure measurement and blood glucose testing.
- Vision testing and fundus photography.
- Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thắm, Specialist Level I in Ophthalmology, shared knowledge about cataracts in older adults and diabetic retinopathy.
- Interaction, Q&A, and direct consultation with an ophthalmologist regarding eye health concerns.
- Participation in a mini game and receiving meaningful gifts from the program.

Two eye diseases highlighted at the program
Cataracts in older adults
Cataracts are one of the most common eye diseases among older adults and can cause blurred vision, reduced eyesight, and difficulties in daily activities.
Regular eye examinations help assess vision and detect abnormal changes so that patients can receive appropriate care advice.
Diabetic retinopathy
Diabetes not only affects blood glucose levels but can also damage the blood vessels in the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy.
This is why people with diabetes should pay attention to regular eye examinations and retinal screening, even when no obvious symptoms have appeared.

More than screening - an opportunity to improve eye care knowledge
In addition to health screening activities, the program also created an opportunity for residents to speak directly with an ophthalmologist and have their questions answered regarding vision, cataracts, diabetes-related eye complications, and ways to proactively protect their eyes.
Every examination is another opportunity to better understand eye health and proactively protect vision.
Hoan Hao General Clinic hopes to continue accompanying the community in raising awareness, promoting proactive screening, and caring for overall health.
